Notts Looking To Bounce Back

Notts County return to league action for the third time this afternoon as they host Swindon Town at Meadow Lane in a 12:30pm kick off.

Stuart Maynard’s side faced a dramatic defeat during a midweek fixture against Walsall on Wednesday, as Nathan Lowe tapped the ball into the bottom left corner in the 82nd minute, giving The Saddlers a 2-1 lead. McGoldrick made a final attempt to equalise in the fifth minute of added time, heading the ball into the back of the net before being ruled offside. The Magpies’ four-game winning streak was not to be, and the visitors left with all three points.

Reflecting upon the performance, Maynard said: “I thought we were excellent within the first half. We dominated, we created chances, and I thought we were outstanding. I think that is the best we’ve performed since we’ve been here as a management team. We have another home game around the corner in which we need a big performance, but the lads are running on empty.”

Swindon, on the other hand, ended the midweek fixture on a more favourable note, securing a 3-2 victory over Colchester United. The Robins clinched a last-minute equaliser in the eighth minute of added time as George Cox converted from the spot.

Notts County enter the clash as the favourable team to win, sitting comfortably at 7th place within the table with 37 points, only a mere 3 points away from entering the top three. Swindon trail behind, sitting at 19th with only 24 points.

Both sides last faced each other in August 2024, when County came from behind to win away. David McGoldrick bagged a brace for the Magpies, scoring in both the 30th and 80th minute. Swindon’s Gavin Kilkenny opened the action, driving the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards out. McGoldrick soon followed, after being left inexplicably unmarked down the edge of the box, striking the ball into the top corner. McGoldrick struck again with 10 minutes left on the clock, gracing the top left corner.

Adult tickets for todays game at Meadow Lane cost £24, whilst concessions are £18. Entry for under-18s costs £10.
