County Share Spoils With Bromley
Notts County 1-1 Bromley (EFL League Two) 25.01.2025
Stuart Maynard’s Notts County side remain in the thick of EFL League Two promotion hunt, despite dropping points at home to mid-table Bromley on Saturday afternoon.
County, who has seen two of their coaching staff depart the club in the past few days, brothers Matt Saunders (Maynard’s assistant), and Craig Saunders (first team coach), the duo looking likely to return to their former club, Wealdstone.
As for the game itself, neither side found the back of the net in what was a goalless, first half, although Jodi Jones did try his luck from range; making his first start in some three months, Jones picked the ball up 35-yards from goal, and curled a lovely effort goal-bound, however, visiting shot-stopper, Grant Smith, was equal to the effort and tipped the ball onto the bar .
The visitors also had a great opportunity to open the scoring themselves, Idris Odutayo however saw his effort well saved by County ‘keeper, Alex Bass, as the sides, somehow, went in level at the break.
County broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second half after referee Stephen Parkinson blew for a foul on David McGoldrick, Jones stepping up to bast home the games’ opener from a dozen yards.
McGoldrick came close to doubling the hosts’ lead, and effectively killing the game off, shortly after, he getting a shot away following a cut-back from Alassana Jatta, however, the effort was blocked and the score stayed at one until the final ten minutes.
Welsh U21 international, Cameron Congreve, created a lovely goal of his own when the midfielder tricked his way into a goalscoring opportunity, before shooting past Bass, the equaliser going in off the post.
Unbeaten in their last three outings, Maynard’s County side now welcome relegation-threatened Carlisle United to Meadow Lane on Tuesday (28 January) night, before starting February with a trip to lowly Gillingham; for County, they are sandwiched in a bunch of seven sides separated by just four points, between second place Crewe Alexandra, and eighth place Salford City.
Notts County: Alex Bass, Rod McDonald, Matty Platt, Jacob Bedeau, Jodi Jones (Nick Tsaroulla 67), George Abbott, Jack Hinchy, Sam Austin, Conor Grant (Charlie Whitaker 78), David McGoldrick (Will Jarvis 76), Alassana Jatta.
