County Draw Khalsa After Crewe Win

Notts County Women will play in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup First Round Proper next month, hosting Sporting Khalsa from the division above, following the Pies’ 2-1 win away to Crewe Alexandra on Sunday gone.

Sitting fifth in Division One Midlands, County led by two goals at the break, Leah Hardy grabbing what would prove the winner with a tap-in, the hosts puling a goal back with thirteen remaining before falling just short in snatching a replay.

The other Notts-based side in FA Cup action was SJR Worksop, they falling short despite a battling display in the North-East, eventually losing 4-0 at Spennymoor Town, Katie Hemmingway scoring twice for the victors.

Although County’s first team were enjoying success in the FA Cup, it was heavy defeats for their other two sides, the Reserves falling to a 6-2 win at home to leaders Stoke City Development in the Reserves Midlands Division, Kaya Anderson firing a four-goal salvo for the victors, Lily-May Jacobs and Ella Boden netting for County.

County’s Development side meanwhile were beaten 4-1 at home to fellow Notts side, Sherwood, in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Division One North, Katie Fish netting twice for the victors there.

On the flip-side, Mansfield Town picked up two victories, one in the EMWRFL Premier, the other in the Notts Girls & Ladies League Seniors One, the Stags’ senior side moved into joint-second, three behind leaders Chesterfield, following a narrow, 1-0 win at Basford United, Monica Bowley netting the only goal.

Meanwhile, Mansfield Devs also won at Basford, defeating their U23s 3-2 in the NGL, a game which saw five different scorers; Ella Dorman and Seren Abbott netted for the hosts with Tia Richards, Jessica Waplington, and Paige West scoring for the victors.

Defeats elsewhere in the EMWRFL saw West Bridgford Colts lose 2-0 at home to Brookside Athletic (D1 Central), and Arnold Eagles lost 2-1 at home to Grimsby Town, Kitty Ward netting for the hosts, Bethany Wharton with the winner five minutes from time.

Elsewhere in the NGL Seniors league, University of Nottingham moving ahead of Radcliffe Olympic, and Mansfield Development, following an emphatic, 8-2 win at home to Olympic, whilst fourth place Calverton Miners Welfare boosted their goal-difference with an even more emphatic, 11-0 win, away to bottom club Arnold Eagles Development.

Other wins, both at home, saw Blidworth Welfare win 6-0 at home to Retford, and Nottingham Trent University Pink edge visiting Newark Town 3-1, the bottom five of the division separated by just three points.
