Mills & Soldiers Still Unbeaten

The Central Midlands Alliance would see just a handful of games this past weekend involving Notts clubs, although thirteen were in action, with Division One East having three derbies, where some seventeen goals were netted.

A top-heavy Notts division, D1East, sees Mansfield Hosiery Mills Blue lead the way, three points ahead of Shirebrook Soldiers, with both enjoying unbeaten starts – the latter though have three games in hand.

Away to Ashland Rovers, who sit fourth, the Blues won a five-goal thriller, cancelling out Robert Whitmore’s brace with goals from Danny Fletcher, Cameron Pinnick, and Blake Vincent; Shirebrook meanwhile, they eased to a 6-0 win when home to third place Kirton Brickworks, Ben Charlesworth with another treble.

Six goals apiece were netted in the games as Southwell, and at Long Bennington, the former seeing their Reserves win 4-2 at home to Eastwood & Kimberley, Ethan Widdowson with a brace for the victors, whilst in the latter, six goals were shared as the hosts drew 3-3 with Blidworth Reserves.

Division One North sees SJR Worksop Development continuing to enjoy their start to the new season, sitting top, although having played more games than the chasing pack, following their 4-1 win at home to Harworth Colliery Reserves.

One of three sides, at the opposite end of the table, on seven points apiece, the visitors would find themselves brushed aside against a Worksop side taking their tally to fourteen in their last three games – Harvey Brayford-Taylor, Regan Millard, Owen Stead, and substitute Max Sykes, all on-target.

As for those Notts Clubs in the CMA Premier divisions, three of the five clubs from within the county scored twice whilst picking up wins, and it was a day to forget for both Blidworth, following a second half capitulation, and for Arnold Town.

In the South Linby Colliery Welfare maintained their impressive start to the season following their 2-0 win at fellow promotion hopefuls Grahm Street Prims, Liam Cartledge and an own-goal the deciding factor, whilst Mansfield Hosiery Mills won 2-1 at home to Holbrook Sports thanks to goals from Jake Johnson and Luke Greaves.

Arnold meanwhile suffered a 6-2 reverse when hosting Wirksworth Ivanhoe, they sitting twelfth in the table; with Teversal propping up the table, Linby CW are sitting nicely in second place, three behind leaders South Normanton Athletic, winning nine of eleven thus far.

And in the North, with mid-table Blidworth suffering a heavy, 7-0 defeat at home to second place Doncaster City (Dinnington Town top with twelve-from-twelve), substitute Jordan Turner with three, and Josh McKay two.

Ollerton Town meanwhile, they’ve now won seven, drawn one, of their elven games, following a 2-1 win away to eight-man Hatfield Town; three dismissals proved the undoing for the hosts as Ollerton, sitting fourth in the table, netted at the end of each half through Regan Edridge and Rob Singer, and saw Josh Watson save a penalty with twelve remaining, to snatch maximum points.

Station Road witnessed a blistering start in the Notts Senior League Premier Division this past Saturday as second place Collingham raced into a three-goal lead, inside ten minutes, of their home encounter with FC Sez.

A brace from Kieran Job, his first goals of the season, afforded the hosts a great early advantage; Job’s first came after job forty-one seconds, and his second on three minutes, against a shell-shocked, bottom of the table side.

Fearing a rout, FC Sez fell further behind on nine minutes when William Hollingsworth connected to a pass from Jaden Fell to slot home an early third; chances, they came and went for the hosts and, although a second half goal was disallowed through an offside decision, the score remained as it had from the opening throes – the hosts picking up a valuable three points at the top of the table.

Early leaders FCV Grace Dieu kept their noses in front with a 2-1 win at home to Southwell City Reserves, Beeston edged a five-goal thriller against visiting West Bridgford Reserves, and Radcliffe Olympic eased their early season woes a little when picking up a 4-2 success at Wollaton, Michael Moussa with two for the victors.

At the top of the Premier Division, Grace Dieu may hold a one-point lead on Collingham, but the next two of Cotgrave, and Borrowash Victoria, have several games in hand, each; victories in those will tighter that quartet up completely.

Division One is led by Colsterworth S&S, who’ve a hundred percent record, and lead second place Kimberley Miners Welfare by two, and third place Bingham Town by three; of the trio, the leaders edged a seven-goal battle at Rushcliffe, whilst Kimberley Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw at home to East Leake Robins.

Bingham meanwhile, poised in third, romped to an 8-0 home win over visiting Beeston Old Boys Association, who are bottom; a trio of home players bagged braces, they being Jacob Boyes, Kieran Stanley, and James Maberley, with Adam Daybell and Joseph Hornigold also netting, taking the tally to twenty in their last three outings.

Gedling Southbank hold the advantage in Division Two, their 4-0 success away to FC Cavaliers Reserves keeping them two ahead of Notts Olympic, with a game in hand, Olympic netting four themselves in a 4-1 win at Arnold Town Reserves.

A couple of points further back, in third, are FC Pelican, who romped to an 8-2 win away to Calverton Miners Welfare as both Kosia Mazlun and Martin McDonagh grabbed hat-tricks, with Elston United in fourth still shouting (with games in hand).

Whilst Division Three sees Beeston Reserves lead the way, by a point from the unbeaten Collingham Reserves, Phoenix Athletic sit third, whilst sides beneath them have games in hand.

Action was also seen in the Second Round of the NSL Senior Cup, several players notching braces for their respective clubs – Kyren Johnson-Ward scored twice as AC United saw off Keyworth 3-1, both Patrick Ferguson and Cameron Thurgood did so for their respective sides as Cotgrave defeated Awsworth Villa 4-2, and it was the same as Ruddington Village won 3-2 against visiting FC Cavaliers, Ross Cochrane-Smith and Jarrod Westcarr the respective scorers.
