Final Four Target County Prize
Notts County Reserves, who’ve made the semi-finals of this season’s County Cup, were on the road at Doncaster Rovers Belles Reserves, on Sunday afternoon, emerging with an impressive, 5-1 victory, in the FA Women’s National League Reserves Midlands division.
Victory for County’s second string, which featured a hat-trick from Nicola Russell, pushed County into fourth, and level on points with the Belles, with two games in hand.
County grabbed three in the opening twenty-five minutes, Russell with a brace, and one for Parkes, as the visitors stamped their authority throughout; the hosts pulled one back early in the second half before Brookes restored the three-goal advantage with a little over twenty remaining.
As the game headed towards its close, Russell popped up to add a fifth, with four minutes remaining, a result that sees them just five behind second place Derby County Development, and nine off leaders Stoke City Development, both of whom have a game in hand themselves.
Chaos ensued in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division contest between hosts Mansfield Town, and local rivals Nottingham Trent University, a game which saw the sides finish 1-1 (Grace Shipman netting for Mansfield), and a change in match official during the game.
The point for Andi Bell’s charges sees them not only strengthen third place, but move within a point of joint-leaders Chesterfield, and Sheffield, both of whom have games in hand, the former due to face the Stags in early March.
SJR Worksop moved emphatically into the next round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA County Cup competition, breezing past visitors Handsworth Development, 7-1, Emily Murphy claiming a five-goal haul alongside goals from Emily Myatt, and Laura Ferguson.
West Bridgford Colts suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Asfordby Amateurs in Division One Central, whilst in Division One North Notts County Development won 3-0 away to Belper Town, to consolidate fourth, with fifth place Sherwood being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Chesterfield.
For County the goals arrived in the final ten minutes with Gemma Cornes opening the scoring, Aurelia Burdett doubling the advantage with five to go, and Lily-May Jacobs sealing victory at the death.
As for the Notts Girls & Ladies League Seniors One, there was plenty of action at hand, and three points splitting the top five after Sunday’s action.
Calverton Miners Welfare joined Radcliffe Olympic at the top after the former won 2-0 away to NTU Pink, and the latter fell to a shock, 4-1 loss, at bottom club, Arnold Eagles Development.
Newark Town sit in third place after their 6-2 success at Hucknall Town as Jessica Hogg grabbed a hat-trick, and fourth place University of Nottingham also notched six, winning 6-1 against visitors Mansfield Town Development, who slip to fifth.
The remaining games in the division saw Basford United U23s win 6-0 at home to Retford, Maisie Plumb and Faith Simms bagging braces, and Lowdham Colts win 3-1 away to Blidworth Welfare and sit in sixth place.
The draw for the semi-finals of this seasons’ Nottinghamshire FA Women’s County Cup has also been made this past week, with Mansfield Town’s Abbie Greaves, and Basford United’s Kayleigh Downes, ably assisting. The final four was thus drawn as follows –
Arnold Eagles vs. Basford United; Notts County Reserves vs. Mansfield Town.
